(Castle) Gardens
Many castles and country seats in the Netherlands have surrounding
gardens. Holland's Versailles in the middle of the country
is modelled on the 17th century baroque garden design of the
two Frenchmen Marot and Roman. Many statues and vases, water
gardens and fountains, terraces, pergolas and ornamental patterns
of buxus hedging can be admired in a regal setting at only
an hour's drive from Amsterdam.
Even closer to Amsterdam, gardens in English country style
can be seen round a fairy-tale castle.
Of a completely different nature is the Le Roy ecological
garden where tons of disused concrete and stone have been
used for laying out a garden reminiscent of the Inca ruins.
Furthermore the country has many private gardens, botanical
gardens, historical gardens and nursery gardens which are
also open to visitors.
